The Romanian flag is a tricolour consisting of blue, yellow and red in vertical stripes.
While Romania gained its name and independence only in 1862 and 1877, the Romanian flag dates back to the year 1848 even if it got its official status not before the union of Walachia and Moldavia eleven years later took place.
Since the 27th of December, 1989 it is acknowledged as the official flag of the semi presidential republic Romania.
